I’m going to share something people don’t talk a lot about when it comes to a “balanced life” and reaching for your goals. It’s almost impossible to have both at the same time. When you’re in the process of making changes in your life, no matter what they are, it’s absolutely NORMAL for your life to get a little out of balance. At least for a short while. I’m talking about times when …
You only have so many hours in a day, with a limited amount of energy! When you’re faced with a real-life “out of balance” goal or situation, there are a couple of things you can do about it. First, accept it. “To everything, there is a season…” That’s been solid wisdom for thousands of years – because it’s TRUE! If you try to do it “all” … it’ll almost always just lead to disappointment, burnout, and unneeded stress. Second, try to give the other areas of your life SOME attention. I’m talking about things related to:
If you completely ignore those areas of your life, before long you might find yourself feeling unhappy, unfulfilled, and feel like something is missing from your life (because it is!). You might not be able to devote time to every area of your life every day, but carving out time once a week can make a real difference. But here's the thing. Unless you're assessing yourself on a regular basis, you might not know that you're completely off track until it severly effects your life. And unless you have some kind of accountability and support, you can be swept away by other people's needs and goals! It's happened to me so many times since I became a mom. Not that I'm living with regrets, it's more like I have so much gratitude for the support I have now. I've kept to my goals in the past few years in a way that I hadn't been able to while running a household. I spend a few minutes assessing all the areas of my life on Sunday or Monday morning, and can decide and plan how I can make the next week different. I can also set boundaries with my family so that I can accomplish my goals whether they're career or fitness related and by doing that, I'm a great role model for my kids...especially my daughter. They respect my boundaries and they're proud of me. The support I get in my career/business/mission is also important. Yesterday in the mastermind I'm part of, we revisited some goals we had set 3 months ago and I'm 95% of the way there. I was so surprised! And I couldn't have done it without the group members! So tell me, do you have a way that you assess all the areas of your life on a regular basis? Do you have accountability and support built into your week?
