It hasn't been as easy to step back into my life as I thought it would be. I'm finding that I don't want things to be exactly the same as when I left ten months ago. Ten months out of the country and I'm not the same person I was when I left. No one in our family is. Preparing meals has been one of the hardest parts. We tried not to eat out all the time, but for the most part I only prepared simple meals while I was traveling. A friend made me feel better by reminding me that even without going anywhere, you often are cooking and eating different foods than you were a year ago. So I realized I didn't need to step into making the same meals I was making before we left. But that actually meant I wasn't really making any meals for awhile. Oops! For the first week and a half back at home, my kids were complaining about the lack of food in the house and I completely lacked the motivation or creative energy to make dinner. Plus, my ten year old is still very serious about being a vegetarian, so although I have been vegetarian in the past, we hadn't been as a family, even though we never ate a lot of meat. So even though I want a routine, I want a new routine. I'm in a unique position to start over again to some degree. Do you want to start over with me? Of course, I know it's summer, the kids are on summer vacation, and I work from home, so there's a certain amount of lack of structure. Kids or not, you're probably busier in the summer, too! So I've decided to use all this change to my advantage. First of all, I re-subscribed to a weekly meal plan service. I hadn't been using it to it's full potential before I left, but I'm trying to use it to it's full potential now. You can read more about it here: Real Plans weekly meal plans! It's been a game changer for me. I'll write about it more in the near future. That meant that on Sunday, I shopped for a week of dinners! I even got some input from the kids. It's made a huge difference! This is great for me to do on my own, but I want to make other changes, too! The changes can't be too crazy because I'm dealing with kids home from school, driving them to friend's houses, trying to get our house back together after being gone for so long. Just typical summer craziness that we all deal with, kids or not. Here's where you come in. I want some accountability and I'm guessing that you might want accountability too. I've put together a free 7-Day Wellness Challenge. The way it works is that one healthy habit will be added each day for seven days. The habits aren't difficult to pick up, some you may already do, some may be new to you. The idea is to get into the habit of taking care of yourself in easy ways that can be maintained throughout the summer. So it shouldn't actually be that challenging, but I will be guiding you through it all the same. If it does seem to easy, don't worry. I'll add in some bonus habits, too! Then in the fall, after kids go back to school and summer trips are mostly over, you'll be primed to do my free 21-Day challenge. No problem! But for now, getting into a groove around being conscious of your health can be enough. And sometimes, just enough is fine. If you'd to learn more about the free 7-Day Wellness Challenge and sign-up, click the link below. I promise it's very doable! PS. The live version starts Sunday, July 23rd! Now it's your turn! |
