This is one of my favorite topics … it’s all about MINDSET, and how you have much more control over your days than you might think! As we head into the busy end-of-year holiday season, it is SO EASY to feel like your days run you, instead of you running them. Have you ever had one of those days when you’ve felt incredibly busy … but then at night you look back and feel like you didn’t get anything done? I know it's happened to me! Today, I’m going to share ONE TRICK that can turn that around. Should you jump right in to your day?If you have a busy schedule, it can be tempting to wake up early, and as soon as you get up, start plowing through your to-do list as fast as possible. I personally understand this very well! This is especially true if you have to get to work or the studio early, or you have young kids at home. You just want to hit the ground running, so you don’t end up feeling behind! But that doesn’t always work so well, does it? It can leave you feeling frazzled and scattered, and even more stressed as the day goes on, because you’re constantly playing catch up! And as a High Performance Coach, I can tell you that the three worst things you can do (that so many of us do) is to start the day with social media, start the day with email and text, and start the day without intention. What you should do instead. That’s why one of the most important things you can do in the morning is take just a few minutes to set your main priority for the day. That allows you to keep your head clear and mind focused. Yes, I’m talking about creating a morning routine … but a scaled-back routine that’s only about 5 minutes long. If you have more time, I'll share what I do below. (It's about 30 minutes long). My kids are older and I'm able to get up before the rest of the family. For a lot of us, a routine that’s longer than that is just not realistic! I’m talking about just 5 minutes to focus on YOU, your priorities, self-care, and setting your intention for the day. This means drinking a cup or two of water to start your day … take any vitamins or supplements that you normally take … and then spending a few minutes to meditate, journal, pray, or read … or whatever works for YOU to start your day with a firm purpose and intention! You could also move your body to get your lymphatic system revved up. This can include lightly bouncing on your feet and stretching to help rejuvenate your body and let it know it’s go time! My current morning routine...This is exactly what I do almost every single morning. I'm not going to leave anything out! I come into the kitchen, pet my two dogs and let them out. I start the coffee and drink two glasses of water while I unload the dishwasher and wipe down the counter. (My awesome husband does the dinner dishes every night, but doesn't always clean the counter thoroughly. ( - ; When the coffee is done, I sit down and write in my Start Today Journal (I got it two weeks ago and love it! I just ordered a bunch for gifts. In it, I write 5 things I'm grateful for, 10 dreams I want to have accomplished in 10 years (as if they had already happened) and one short term goal. It only takes about 5 minutes and is a game changer in keeping my dreams at the forefront. Then I meditate for 20-30 minutes. Right now, I'm doing the free Deepak Chopra 21-day meditation series, I would highly recommend it. Depending on when you're reading this you can still join! Otherwise, I own several of his meditation series, and I like them because they have a theme. That's it right now. When I do these things, my mindset is good and I'm more likely to have a great day. I would like to also add about 10 to 15 minutes of yoga, but for now this is working. Note: I've worked really hard to take checking my phone (email and social) out of my morning routine. I'm not completely there, but almost. Most days I wait and it gives me the time for my meditation! The Why and HowThe most important thing with this routine is to do it with intention … because it’s YOUR time to set the tone for the rest of the day! Be present and MINDFUL as you go through whatever is in your morning routine! This means that when you start your day, you’re doing it in a PROactive way, instead of just REacting to the million things you have to get done that day. This one thing can change everything for you. So … my suggestion for you is to give yourself permission to take 5 MINUTES out of your morning for YOU, to start your day off right! You deserve it! Are you in for giving this a try for the next 7 days? Who’s in with me?!
