How to Be More Motivated

Did you know that even high-performance coaches like me lose our momentum sometimes? That even with all the knowledge and tricks up our sleeves, our motivation can stall?

I’m happy to say that I’m
not currently feeling that way (thank goodness!), but last week I got a good reminder about how motivation works hand in hand with mindset.

I attended a seminar called The Art of Success, and I took so many notes my hand was cramped afterward.

My biggest takeaway that I want to share with you now is that
we all have within us an amazing tool to help us reach our goals - if we remember to take care of it.

The Care and Feeding of Motivation (and Mindset)

Picture
Have you ever said that you’ll “get started as soon as I find the motivation”? Looking back, did that motivation just show up and encourage you to work on that goal? Probably not!

Our motivation comes from a healthy mindset, and both are what drive you to succeed. Unfortunately, we can’t just turn “on” our motivation when we want to. Very much like exercising our bodies, we need to take care of our mindset so that it can be strong when our motivation wanes.

So how do you maintain your motivation, even when you “don’t feel like it”? You get your mindset ready, by:

SURROUNDING IT in a supportive, positive environment. This can be as simple as working in a space you love! It also looks like choosing supportive people to stand in your corner, hiring a coach, and practicing positive self talk.

FEEDING IT with inspiration. Read an inspiring book, listen to a presentation by someone you admire, or listen to a podcast that makes you want to take on the world!
One of my favorite inspirational books is The Motivation Manifesto by Brendon Burchard.
And if you prefer to watch videos? You can always find me on YouTube!
TRAIN IT by taking consistent action. Build good habits that support your goals, and keep your forward momentum.

WORK ON IT with intention. Our mindset needs to be worked on just as much as any other part of our wellness routine. Drink lots of water. Go for a walk. Work on mindset. Heck - you might even be able to do all three at once!

This way, when your motivation is tested, your mindset is ready to keep you on track.

My 3 Mindset Practices

Picture
Each day, I take time to write down:
  • 5 things I’m grateful for: This helps train my mind to see all of the positive things in my life.
  • 10 dreams for 10 years from now: This keeps me connected to my dreams, so I can take small actions towards them every day.
  • 1 short term goal: This helps my brain feel focused. Plus, short term goals mean a sooner win!

Every time I write out my goals, it is an act of re-commitment, and they are reinforced in my mind. So each day, I’m strengthening my mindset while setting myself up every day to be and act more intentional as the person I want to be in the future.

What are YOU doing to make your MINDSET strong today? Let me know in the comments!
