"If you don't know where you are going, any road will take you there." -- Lewis Carrol Before I start work with a client, whether it's one-on-one or in an online program, the very first thing we do is figure out is "why do you want to do this program or work on yourself?" Without Clarity, you'll likely find yourself lacking energy, productivity, courage, and influence. These five were shown to be key traits of the most successful people in the world and maybe you don't aim to be among the most successful people in the world, but you probably have your own success you'd like to achieve. We're midway through the year, and you may have lost track of your goals completely, or they've shifted through the year. It's a great time of year to check in with yourself so that you can course correct if you need to. Typically when I coach my clients, we come back to clarity at least every six months, if not every three months during a year long program. I'd like you to treat this post as a workshop or worksheet. Grab a piece of paper, a glass of water or tea, and spend some time going through each of these questions. Five Questions to Ask Yourself to Gain Clarity and FocusMy intention is to provide you with the opportunity to get crystal clear on what you really want in your life. Once you're clear, you can set off on your journey to live a healthy and fulfilling life designed by you! 1. What's meaningful in your life? What's meaningful in your life? What's not meaningful in your life? Think about what you do on a daily basis. Is there anything that you can cut out of your life that doesn't bring you joy? Is there anything that you love doing, that you haven't been making time for? What are you passionate about? What are your interests.
When a difficult decision presents itself, recognizing and choosing your best options will be easier when you are clear on your values and priorities 2. Who are you?Describe the best version of yourself. If you overheard some friends talking about you at a party, what could they say that would make you proud of who you are? It's not only important to think about your ideal future self, but to regularly engage in activities related to that ideal future. Last February, I went into this topic in greater depth. You can learn from a book, a class, or a mentor or coach. What new skills do you need to learn? For example, if you want to be the best parent you can be, you might read some books on parenting, or ask questions of friends with older kids, whose parenting style you admire. Not only does learning and practicing new skills add excitement and fun to your life, but it works your brain muscle! Do you find it as exciting as I do that "old dogs CAN learn new tricks?" Assess yourself weekly to keep yourself on track.Rate yourself in these key areas:
Assessing these on a weekly basis will help you refocus on your week and keep you from wandering too far track 5. Surround yourself with the right people.Identify who the people are that have the most positive impact on your life and that you can lean on as you pursue your goals. Try to come up with at least three that are in your life right now. Especially if you can't think of three, brainstorm which relationships in your life you can deepen, and also, be on the lookout for ways to meet more people. These could be different people for different goals. It's always easier to go to the gym if you have a gym buddy. How do you feel about your answers to these questions? The goal of these questions is to help you identify areas for improvement in the major areas of life. As with any self-assessment, the goal isn't a complete or perfect snapshot and rating of every detail of your life, but more a good opportunity for overall self-reflection. If you don't like the answers, it's only an indication of which areas need more focus. Clarity takes time, and it's not a one and done. Over time, your goals may change, therefore what you focus on also changes. Be patient with yourself and enjoy! If you're reading this, you're half-way there! "Tell me, what is it you plan to do
