Are You a Goal Setter or a Goal Getter?

You know that I love a good goal setting session, and that I think anytime is a good time to review your goals or set new ones. But unless you’re taking action (doing the goal getting), setting goals is moot. So if you’re finding yourself constantly shifting your goals around and not meeting them, I have an idea that might help.

What Your Goals Represent

Have you ever spent time wondering what your goals represent? Yes, they are a result or change you want in your life; but they are more than that! When you set a goal, it’s proof that you are focused on creating a better life for yourself. And that’s pretty powerful.
Which one feels more empowering to you?
  • I’m going to lose ten pounds. OR
  • By moving my body more and feeding it nutritious, delicious food, I’m creating a life where I have energy, feel strong in my body, and am less stressed out. 

The second option sounds like a life most of us would want! It’s definitely more motivating than telling yourself to lose weight. 

Now don't get me wrong, we still need those SMART goals to keep us accountable, celebrate our successes, and make shifts when things aren't working. So let's keep those, but let's also add in a new way of talking about our goals. The goal is the how, but it represents the why.

Get Connected to Your Why

If that didn’t spark something inside of you, it may be because you haven’t found your own why, yet. And that why is essential not only for setting and getting your goals, but also for creating a life that you truly love. What do you want to do more of? Less of? How do you want to spend your time? How do you want to feel? 

It may have been a while since you thought of these things, so take some time to revisit them. We often get so caught up in our daily life that we forget to stop and consider where we are going. If you don’t know where you’re going, how can you set goals to get you there? 

This is where a coach and community can help! It can be so helpful to have an outside perspective, and have someone to support you to rediscover your path... and then help you create a plan to get you there.
