Cinnamon is beneficial for more than apple pie. Especially, this time of year! 🍎 Cinnamon is the dried, inner bark a tropical evergreen laurel species native to India and Sri Lanka. 🍎 The Arabs, who first brought cinnamon to the West, wove many myths and stories about it's origins to frighten off rival traders. 🍎Cinnamon contains a substance that kills various fungi, bacteria, and other microorganisms, including Staphylococcus aureas, responsible for staph infections, and also the organism responsible for botulism, and many others 🍎 Cinnamon oil is one of the most antimicrobial of essential oils. In modern times, it's been shown that viruses cannot live in the presence of cinnamon oil.
🍎 Cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and clove are used together as a tea to relieve cough and congestion, and to promote digestion. I'll have my poor husband try it out for his allergy related cough! 🍎 Cinnamon is also a detoxifying herb. It creates freshness and strengthens and energizes the tissues. It also promotes digestion. It can increase digestive fluid secretion and therefore can reduce intestinal gas. 🍎 Cinnamon is #7 on the scale that measures the concentration of antioxidants in different foods. It's health benefits come from the type of antioxidants called polyphenols, phenolic acid and flavonoids (similar to those found in berries, and dark chocolate. These antioxidants work to reduce oxidative stress in the body. 🍎 The antioxidants also have anti-inflammatory effects throughout the body. Because it lowers swelling and inflammation, it can help to relieve muscle soreness, menstrual pain, severity of allergic reactions, and other age-related symptoms of pain. 🍎 Cinnamon is also warming. It raises vitality and stimulates all the vital functions of the body, counteracting congestion and aiding in peripheral circulation. 🍎 Cinnamon is a powerhouse spice. I couldn't even list all of it's benefits here! 🍎 . Go have a cup of cinnamon tea, shake some powdered cinnamon on some apple slices, or season your morning bowl of oats! 🍎 Please share YOUR favorite way to use cinnamon!
