😎 I usually think of turnips as more of a winter vegetable, but last week I received a bunch of small, sweet, turnips and they were quite good eaten raw and sliced thinly onto a salad. 🥗 🌰 Turnips originally come from Russia, Siberia and the Scandanavian península. They are a member of the cabbage family and has round or top shaped roots, white skin with purplish or greenish crowns, and thin, green, hairy leaves. 🌰 They flourish in poor soils and keep well, making them traditionally popular with the poor. However, it’s valuable for its nutrients and medicinal and healthful qualities. 🌰 Raw turnips have a tangy flavor similar to a mild radish but are sweet when cooked. The root is high in Vitamin C.

I have to admit, I've never been a big fan of radishes. 🌱 However, they're very easy to grow, so I would give seeds to my kids to plant when they were young. They come up quickly and are very satisfying. I would use the greens in a salad or stir fry, and give the actual radishes to my neighbor, who loves them. Health BenefitsYes, sweet potatoes contain more sugar than regular potatoes but about half the starch in general. The good thing is that both sweet potatoes and regular potatoes contain resistant starch which means the starch takes a longer time to convert to sugar in your body. Plus, unlike other sugary snacks, they are nutrient dense. So satisfy that sweet craving with sweet potatoes! The most interesting fact about sweet potatoes!Beet RootBeets are one of nature's bodily cleansers, which is great to combat the toxic world we live in. They dissolve and eliminate acid crystals in the kidneys, detoxify the liver and gallbladder, and eliminate acid material in the bowel. Wow! Beets also contain contain natural chlorine, which helps wash away fat, which might otherwise build up in the cells of the liver, kidneys, and gall bladder. They also stimulate lymph fluid and lubricate the intestines (ie. helps with constipation). |
