🎉 Blueberries are another superfood!

  • Not only are they tasty, low in sugar and high in fiber, but they have a host of other health benefits, too

  • Blueberries are at the top of the list of fruits for their antioxidant properties. Antioxidants fight free radicals and damage to cells. They also help protect against heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.

  • Blueberries also contain powerful anti-inflammatory compounds.
  • The phytonutrients in blueberries block damage to blood vessels including those in the brain, helping to prevent strokes and aging of the brain.

  • The anti-bacterial properties of blueberries help counter UTI's (urinary tract infections) by keeping bacteria from clinging to the walls of the bladder.

  • Blueberries are excellent blood and kidney cleansers.

  • They rejuvenate the pancreas.

  • They improve sluggish circulation.

  • Fresh blueberries have a healing effect on any infection of the mouth.

  • They may be therapeutic in treatment of varicose veins, hemorrhoids, and peptic ulcers.

  • The surprising benefit is to eyes and vision. The anthocyanins, which are antioxidant flavonoids, help prevent free radical damage to the eyes.

  • The anthocyanins support and protect collagen structures in the blood vessels of the eyes, making the capillaries strong and healthy so that they can successfully carry vital nutrients to the eye muscles and nerves.

  • Blueberries may also protect against cataracts and glaucoma.

🌱 An extra benefit if you grow blueberries is that the blueberry leaves lower blood sugar in Type 2 diabetes!

There are many ways to eat blueberries, my favorite are snacking on them when they're fresh and putting frozen blueberries in my morning smoothie!
