Asparagus is a treat this time of year!

🍴 I really love tossing asparagus with olive oil, salt, and pepper, then roasting it in the oven or on the grill.  It's so simple, easy, and delicious.

🍴 The Greeks and Romans used asparagus for it's medicinal properties before it's culinary properties.  They used it for relieving the pain of toothaches.

🍴  Asparagus' medicinal property comes from
asparagine, a kidney diuretic which binds up oxalic and uric acid crystals stored in kidneys and muscles and eliminates them through urine.

🍴  Asparagus also has the highest glutathione content.  Glutathione is known to be a particularly important carcinogen.

🍴 Asparagus contains aspartic acid, an amino acid that neutralizes excess ammonia in our bodies.

🍴 Asparagus contains ruten, which prevents small blood vessels from bursting.

🍴  Asparagus has both a high water content and is high in indigestible fiber contributing to healthy bowel movements.

🍴  Asparagus is also contains Vitamins C and A and the mineral selenium.  All three are shown to be strong cancer fighters!

Try to get asparagus as fresh as you can, as when it is fresh, the flavor is remarkably better!
